  • LAND IS SCARCE
  • Maximise land use
  • Certain land uses that are not compatible with each other

Housing

  • Usually built by government
  • sometimes built by private entities
  • Conform to planning guidelines and use high-quality materials
  • Building and Construction Authority (BCA) → makes the guidelines for the houses built
  • If you own the property you get a Title Deed
  • If you rent a property you get a Rental Agreement
  • Have access to basic services (water, electricity, sewage)

Informal

Housing

  • Usually self-built by residents
  • Construction is not regulated and uses inferior building materials, not strong
  • Illegally built on undeveloped and unsecured state or private land
  • Lack access to basic services
  • Eg. Turkey after earthquake
